Story Package Process

This semester at San Diego State University has gone by so fast! I remember the first day in my Journalism 430 class when my professor was giving us students the details on our story package projects which would officially be due at the end of the semester. It’s crazy to think that the end of the semester is right around the corner. With that being said, at this point in the process of my project I am feeling pretty confident with the content that I have retrieved and put together so far. I had a total of five interviews set up for this project and I have interviewed three so far. One of them dropped out and says she is too busy to do an interview, and my final scheduled interview is for next Friday, April 12. I made sure to contact more sources than I would need just in case one backs out and I am so glad I did that because that is exactly what happened! The sources that I have had the pleasure of interviewing so far have been so nice and helpful, and have provided me with so much information plus more, opening up my mind to incorporate new ideas.

The next step in my project involves data research, which I am really excited to conduct. I originally wanted to use data that is already out there on my topic, but, after meeting face to face with the bloggers and cafĂ© owner I decided I want to conduct my own data. I decided this for two reasons. One, my topic is based on bloggers/influencers in San Diego only, and any previous research that I have found isn’t just from San Diego, instead they were focused more globally. Even though blogging and becoming an influencer is trending globally, my project is only based on the San Diego groups so that is what I want to focus on. I also decided to conduct my own research because I feel like I can come up with specific questions that I want answered tailored to my specific topic. I plan to do an online survey and I want to target people through social media to head over and answer my survey questions. I have come up with a couple of questions so far, and I plan to get my survey up by this week with a total of ten questions. I really look forward to seeing how people answer each of my questions. Other than conducting my data research and meeting with my final source next week, I am in the process of editing my first draft that was returned to me by my professor. This process is rolling smoothly and so close to its final presentation.
